Wide-brimmed Sun Hat
When you want to dress less casual choose a straw sun hat. Choose an option that is crushable and won’t get ruined in your suitcase. Also, waterproof ones are a great idea. I did not realize how important this was until the wind blew my hat off into the water at the beach. Thankfully it was able to be saved.

Saltstick Electrolyte Tablets
I first discovered these tablets right before I visited Haiti in 2018. These tablets are the perfect trick for staying hydrated, without having to drink gallons of water. These give you all the electrolytes you need that water alone does not provide.

Saltstick tablets come in lots of great flavors. My favorite are watermelon and mango. They also have lime and peach flavors. Unlike many tablets that are dissolved in water, these can be eaten just as they are. It’s like eating Gatorade in solid form.
Trader Joe’s Oil-free Sunscreen
It’s so difficult to find a sunscreen that doesn’t leave a white cast. Everyone online has been raving about the Supergoop brand sunscreen that goes on clear. When I found out that Trader Joe’s was selling a dupe, I knew I had to try it. I love it, not only for my face, but also for my body.

Citronella bracelets
If I’m traveling anywhere tropical, you will see these bracelets on my wrists. They are very effective. Mosquitoes will not bite you. Put them on your ankles as well, if you can find ones that fit.

I prefer the stretchy ones that look like telephone cords as opposed to the thicker ones. The thicker ones are rather tight, even for my wrists.
Goody Forever Extra Strength Scrunchies
When the weather is warm you do not want your hot hair on your neck. Use Goody Forever hair elastics or scrunchies to keep your hair off your neck. When you have really thick hair like I do, you need the extra strength version. I love these because they don’t stretch out after only a couple uses.

Nalgene water bottle
It is hard to remember to drink water when you are on a trip and only thinking about the exciting things you’re doing. Keep a water bottle on hand to remind you to stay hydrated. I have had this Nalgene bottle for 5+ years. The heavy-duty plastic stands up to my clumsiness.

My bottle has been dropped numerous times and it still keeps working. The lock keeps it from opening unnecessarily. It can be opened with one hand. The design also allows it to hook onto any bag. This is a warm weather travel essential for sure. Check out the full Nalgene line here.
Baseball Cap
Warm weather trips mean lots of sun. Protect yourself with a baseball cap. This is the perfect option for more casual outfits. And it’s easy to pack.

Prescription Sunglasses
For all my glasses wearers, this is so important. Having a pair of prescription sunglasses is so convenient. You should not have to choose between sun protection or blindness.

I don’t believe you have to change them as often as regular glasses because you’re not wearing them as often. (I’m not an eye doctor.) The prescription sunglasses I have are over 10 years old and I haven’t had any problems.
Waterproof Phone Case
Buy a good quality waterproof or water-resistant case. Use it to store your phone and other valuables when you’re at the beach or pool.

Extremely cheap options are not recommended. Choose a good quality case to protect your valuables. It’s a low investment for items that probably cost you a lot of money.
Comfortable Sandals
Comfortable shoes in general are great for traveling. However, for warm weather you don’t want to confine your feet. Give your feet a little more breathing room.

This is where comfortable sandals come into play. Test out a lot of different ones. Make sure they’re not rubbing on your feet. Avoid ones that are too high for day-to-day walking. The ones I have on in the picture are definitely not for hiking, but they fit most of my needs.
That rounds out my list of my top ten warm weather essentials. Are there any other items that you swear by for summer travel? Let us know in the comments.

Nice suggestions…
I especially like the mosquito bracelet and the Nagalene water bottle, yes I agree it’s a great investment…
Happy travels, Kelcy.
Jill, I’m glad you liked my picks. The mosquito bracelet and the Naglene water bottle are basically necessities for me.
