The Best Things to Buy in Malta: Shopping Guide

I can’t wait to share what I was able to buy in Malta. Hopefully it can help you find something when you visit. Or you can just get an idea of what types of items are available in this particular country.

I didn’t know that much about Malta before I visited. However, I was pleasantly surprised. And I came back home with lots of great items. Let’s start with handmade items that support local artisans.

Handmade Jewlery and Other Gifts

When I travel, I do my best to shop locally. Silver filigree is made by artisans in Malta. The jewelry is very delicate and beautiful. I purchased two rings from Artisans Center in the capital city of Valetta. The shop sold other handmade items. Many of these were made of metal. Definitely check them out if you visit Valetta. Support the Maltese artisans. Address: 288 Republic St, Valletta, Malta

Handmade tiles and ceramics are also popular items made by artisans. Try to locate items that have a seal showing they are truly handmade. I purchased some items that appeared to be handmade, but they ended up being mass-produced souvenirs.

Alcohol

The wine in Malta is good and very inexpensive. These two bottles came from a grocery store near my Airbnb. The San Paolo white wine cost 2.69 Euros and the Citadella Rosé was 4.54 Euros. Such a steal!

There are also different types of local beer and ales. I’m not much of a beer or ale drinker, but there was a Kopparberg wild berry ale that was so good. It was almost like juice.

There are specialty Maltese liquors made from local items. One of these is a special cactus liquor. They come in little packs that you can give as souvenirs.

Spices

If you have read any of my other souvenir posts, you’ll know that I like to buy local everyday items. I purchased a few different spices from local supermarkets. Rabbit dishes are very popular there, so rabbit seasoning is a great item to buy in Malta. Most of the spices I bought came from the Pama Supermarket in Mosta. Address: Triq Valletta, Il-Mosta MST 9017, Malta

Italian Skincare

The proximity of Malta to Italy means you can find a lot of Italian products. There is an Italian skincare brand called Tesori D’Oriente. All of their items are inspired by different countries all over the world. You know that’s my thing. So, I definitely picked up a few body washes and hand creams inspired by the Middle East. This brand can be found in many supermarkets across Malta. I bought mine at the Pama Supermarket in Mosta. Address: Triq Valletta, Il-Mosta MST 9017, Malta

Leather Shoes

Alberto Shoes on Tourist Street in St. Paul’s Bay is a hidden gem. My father bought shoes from there almost 10 years ago (below). He loves them, and they are still in good condition. I wasn’t able to find the leather sandals I was looking for. However, the shopkeeper was so sweet, and I had a nice time browsing. Definitely give Alberto’s a visit. Address: Tourist St, St Paul’s Bay, St Paul’s Bay, SPB 1024, MT

I found the perfect sandals right before I left Malta. I visited the Parfois Store in the airport. The sandals aren’t leather, but they are the style I was looking for. Parfois also sells leather sandals. Address: Malta Airport, many locations in Europe.

Clothing

One thing I loved about Malta was all the different cultures I came across. Lidsan Craftworks in St. Paul’s Bay has beautiful handmade items from Kenya. They constantly have new items coming in. I didn’t find anything on my first trip there. However, the owner was so helpful and told me to check back in a few days.

When I did, I fell in love with a blouse (above). My mom found a dress (below) that she loved. It really makes a difference when you purchase from small shops that give really good customer service. Address: Tourist St, St Paul’s Bay SPB 1024, Malta

There is a clothing store called Seka in St. Paul’s Bay. I purchased a sweater dress from them. The two women that were running the store that day were so friendly and helpful. Address: 300 Tourist St, St Paul’s Bay, Malta

Typical Souvenirs

There is nothing like purchasing local, handmade items. However, I still purchase typical souvenirs when traveling. These include magnets, and potholders.

I also pick up a magazine in each place I travel to. The magazines below are from Malta and Germany (my second layover). There are many souvenir shops on Tourist Street in St. Paul’s Bay.

Are you planning to visit Malta? What do you plan on buying in Malta? I hope this guide was helpful.
