DIY: Jackson Pollock Art Inspiration

Have you heard of Jackson Pollock? Maybe you don’t know him by name. But you’ve definitely seen his work. Think of paint splatters everywhere and every color of the rainbow.

He is one of the most famous abstract painters and his work is so inspiring. So inspiring that you want to try it for yourself. So let’s do just that.

Step 1: Purchase Your Supplies

For this project I recommend purchasing acrylic paint. For a complete list of items I use with acrylic paints, check out this post.

Step 2: Cover Your Surfaces

You don’t want to get paint on your floors, etc. So use an old sheet or anything else you don’t care about ruining to cover your flooring.

Step 3: Get to Painting

There is no right or wrong way. Jackson Pollock laid a lot of his canvases flat on the floor or up against a wall. He used non-traditional means to apply the paint. Think dripping paint from cans, and using knives or sticks.

You can decide on a color pallet. This is helpful if you are planning to coordinate with something in your home. Otherwise you can just let yourself run wild and put together whatever colors you like. Remember to keep the paint drips from being too thick. They won’t dry properly.

The painting has a life of its own. I try to let it come through”    – Jackson Pollock

This is also a great idea for a Wine & Painting Party. Checkout this post to make it happen!
