Going on a Dubai desert safari needs to be on your list of top things to do in Dubai. Put it at the very top! Where else can you come in contact with sand as far as the eye can see? It was at that point that I realized just how far away from home I really was, in the middle of an actual desert.

This is an actual desert!

Stepping onto the sand is an amazing feeling. The sand nothing like how it is in Connecticut. The sand was almost as fine as powder. There was no water nearby. This means you can roll around in it as much as you want without worrying about taking any home with you. The color of the sand was a stunning burnt orange. Bring a small empty plastic bottle to bring a little home for yourself. It makes a great keepsake that is truly unique.

Dune Bashing on a Dubai Desert Safari

Dune bashing is such an exhilarating experience! Drive over the desert dunes in an SUV. Feel the thrill of being on a roller coaster in the desert. I had seen videos of people doing this on YouTube. Seeing it on a video and actually doing it are two completely different things. You just have to try it for yourself. It’s like seems like a rollercoaster, but there are no track so anything can happen (our SUV had roll-bars just in case).

Camel Rides

Dune bashing was followed by a camel ride. Animal rides are a sensitive subject for many. I decided to ride, while my sister did not. In the future, I most likely will discontinue this type of attraction. It puts a lot of stress on the animals and they don’t deserve that.

Desert Camp

Next we entered the desert camp. We enjoyed a barbecue dinner. There were also performances by a belly dancer, another type of dancer and a fire performer. Everyone was very talented. There were also opportunities to dress up and take photos. I especially enjoyed this.

Being in the desert, under the stars, was something I will not soon forget.
