A desert safari should definitely be on your list of top things to do in Dubai. Where else can you come in contact with sand as far as the eye can see? It was at that point that I realized just how far away from home I really was, in the middle of an actual desert. And it was an amazing feeling. The sand isn’t like the sand found on beaches where I live in Connecticut. The sand was almost as fine as powder. And because there was no water nearby you could roll around in it as much as you wanted without worrying about taking any home with you. The color of the sand was a burnt orange and something I suggest is bringing a small empty bottle to bring a little home for yourself. It makes a great keepsake that is truly unique.
Dune bashing is what it’s called when you drive over the desert dunes in an SUV. I had seen videos of people doing this on YouTube. Seeing it on a video and actually doing it are two completely different things. You just have to try it for yourself. It’s like a rollercoaster, but with no track so anything can happen (our SUV had roll-bars just in case).
This was followed by a camel ride and entering the desert camp. We enjoyed a barbecue dinner. There were also performances by a belly dancer, another type of dancer and a fire performer. Everyone was very talented. There were also opportunities to dress up and take photos, which was something I especially liked. Being in the desert, under the stars, was something I will not soon forget.
