When the people from New York Ghosts reached out to me about taking a ghost tour, I declined, since I really wasn’t interested in ghost tours. Long story short, New York Ghosts has lots of tours that have nothing to do with ghosts. There are tours about culture and the history of New York, including their Taste of NYC: SoHo, Little Italy, and Chinatown Cultural Tour. If you are looking forward to the new Avenger: Doomsday movie, coming out in December, then the New York City Superheroes Tour (Marvel & DC Origins) I recently took will interest you. Let’s start from the beginning.

On a warm September morning, I took the Metro North train from Connecticut into Grand Central Terminal. I had a quick bite to eat at this little bistro called Tartinery, located in the terminal basement. I had passed by the bistro hundreds of times but never stopped there to eat anything. I had an egg sandwich that was really good.

Next, I took the Brooklyn bound number 6 train to the 23rd street- Baruch College stop. I walked a short distance and arrived at Madison Square Park.

This park is the meeting point for the New York City Superheroes Tour. It was a comfortable sunny day in Manhattan. The weather was perfect, not too hot and not too cool. Then, it was time for the tour to start.

I will share little bits and pieces of the tour with you, as I encourage you to take a tour of your own. Let me share three of the reasons I enjoyed taking the “New York City Superheroes Tour: Marvel & DC Comics Origins” tour.

Enjoy a laid-back tour

You may have noticed from other blog posts that I’m not a “tour person”. When I go new places or visit museums I prefer to walk around at my own pace. I may take a self-guided tour. Though, generally I avoid group tours.

This tour was really laid back and felt like I was strolling through New York City with friends. My tour guide was very helpful in pointing out all the ways New York City is tied into a multitude of superhero movies.  It was interesting to hear my guide’s commentary on the history of the neighborhoods that we visited. Am I a guided tour convert?  I’m not sure. However, I did like the pace and style of the tour.

Learn new facts

If you are into superhero movies, there may be information that you already know. There were certain things that I did already know before I took the tour, such as which characters lived in which neighborhoods. However, knowing something about a movie’s location and actually visiting it, are two different things.

Maybe you are a superhero movie fan and can quote DC and Marvel movies with ease. Or maybe you don’t really have an interest in superhero movies at all, and you want to tag along on this tour with someone who loves them. Either way, you will have a great time on this tour and learn new DC and Marvel facts, along with general facts about New York City.

Visit new places

I may live in Connecticut, but I have been visiting the city my whole life. Therefore, I consider myself an honorary New Yorker. But did you know that many New Yorkers themselves, will admit that there are so many landmarks they’ve never been to?

You may walk past them, but have you ever been inside any of the famous New York City landmarks. This tour is a chance to get up close and personal with a couple of them. Then learn new facts about them, as well as how they tie into the Marvel and DC universes.

The tour ends in Times Square. When the tour ended, we were conveniently located near Midtown Comics, a comic bookstore.  Continue your trip at the comic bookstore and pick up something to commemorate your trip.

Then end your trip at the Korean bakery, Paris Baguette, like I did. The bakery is a few steps away from Midtown Comics. I ended up buying a loaf of milk bread and a rice flour doughnut.
