My Dream Travel Bucket List 2020/2021 Edition

My Dream Travel Bucket List 2020/2021 Edition

Bucket list dreaming 2020! We’re not going out much right now. But that doesn’t mean we can’t dream of our next travel destinations. I made a list a few years ago of places that I want to go. Now I’ve updated it a little bit for 2020. More like 2021.

Cuba

Cuba

I chose Cuba for the bucket list because it’s someplace that was under my radar for a long time. Watching scenes in movies and music videos made me want to visit. One in particular was Leona Lewis’ song Happy. She spends the entire video throughout Cuba. There is no way to know exactly where she was. Havana? All the colorful buildings drew me in. They’re different from the colorful buildings I’ve seen in places like St. Kitts and Haiti in the Caribbean. All the vintage U.S. cars are also a unique feature. It’s really cool because it’s definitely a unique thing about Cuba.

Costa Rica

Costa Rica

I’ve yet to step foot in either Central America or South America. Those places never seemed to end up on my bucket list. Costa Rica caught my attention from beautiful pictures I’ve seen. It’s also considered very stable and safe from a tourism standpoint. One of my High School Spanish teachers was from Costa Rica. She was probably the first person I’d ever met from there and the reason I found out a little bit more about it. So it’s one of my top countries for that part of the world.

India

India

Jaipur, India being on the list is not a surprise. A trip to Jaipur isn’t complete without visiting Hawa Mahal. Jaipur is called the Pink City and the Hawa Mahal is a big landmark representing the color. A dream would be to stay at the Fairmont Jaipur. Definitely click this link for pictures. I’ve wanted to go to India for as long as I can remember. And not just Agra to see the Taj Mahal. There are so many places in India that I want to see. Each region has its own culture and different architecture and I want experience all of that.

Hong Kong

Hong Kong

We’ve never had a proper introduction. Hong Kong, we will meet again. There was the layover in 2016 that I always talk about. I’ve always said that I was going to go back and actually experience Hong Kong. So far it hasn’t happened and with the riots it made me a little hesitant to go back. Now international travel has mostly stopped, but I’ll get there eventually. I want to go to the Kowloon neighborhood. My bucket list goal is to try authentic cafes and not touristy places. Travel Advisor lists Hoi On Cafe as a good choice. After that I want to see Victoria Harbour and watch the sailboats. You can’t forget the dim sum and all the cute desserts they have.

Nepal

Nepal

This south Asian country was never the first country on my bucket list. It’s proximity to India drew me to it, though. I’m curious as to what Nepal has to offer. If I was ever going to India I would want to take a side trip to Nepal. Just to see their similarities and their differences just because they’re so close to each other. Even the Nepali language is very similar in the way it looks to Hindi. So many countries that border India were once a part of India. Noting the differences and similarities interests me a lot.

Northern Mariana Islands

The Northern Mariana Islands, Saipan in particular, (top picture) is a place I saw on Instagram years ago. I just found out today that it’s a U.S. commonwealth. They use U.S. currency and I don’t think I’ll need a passport. Though if I’m all the way way in Asia, I’m sure I’ll have it with me. So many people have never heard of the Northern Mariana Islands. It’s not a place a lot of people talk about. I feel it’s always good to go to places that are not so over touristy. The pictures show that it’s just gorgeous. And so this is another place I’d like to explore in Asia. Saipan is such a great alternative to all the overly touristy places in Asia like Bali, Indonesia and places in Thailand. There are so many other small islands that need the tourism too and are waiting to be explored.

Ethiopia

Ethiopia

This is one of my top bucket list countries in Africa. I’ve never stepped foot on the continent of Africa. The closest I’ve come to it is going to the Middle East and flying over parts of northern Africa. I have always wanted to try Ethiopian food. I see videos of injera bread and all the other foods and I just really would love to try them. And nothing compares to tasting the food in the actual country.

Cambodia

Cambodia

This is another place in Asia. Big surprise. I’ve always wanted to see the architecture sites at Angkor . I have some friends that went there last year and their pictures took my breath away. Yes, this is a very touristy place, but I still really want to go. Don’t kill me.

Kenya

Kenya

Lamu Island is located in Kenya and is a place that I just recently discovered. An article about it made it seem so interesting. I don’t know much about Kenya at all. The architecture and the different foods really drew me in. Plus it just seemed so calm and peaceful. I’m really interested to learn more about it.

This is my bucket list. What’s on yours? Going to the next two towns over seems like a luxury right now. This too shall pass. Then it’s back to packing out travel bags!

  1. I like your list – mostly because it is real and not meant merely to impress. I’ve already visited everything on your list except the Northern Mariana Islands, but I hope to visit all of them again with new travel companions and different objectives. Lots of places have lost much of their allure due to overtourism, so I enjoy new ideas. Like Northern Mariana Islands. Thanks!

    1. Thanks! There are plenty of undertouristed places in the world just waiting to be explored. And that’s where the most authentic and life changing moments happen anyway.
