Enjoy a Mini Atlanta Food Tour | Southern Comfort + Ethiopian
In this Mini Atlanta Food Tour, I’m sharing three restaurants I visited on my recent trip to Atlanta, GA. Atlanta is a city with so many great food options. If only I had more time to try even more places.
Buttermilk Biscuit
This place is great for brunch. They have your usual brunch foods. These include Very Berry French Toast and the Buttermilk Pancake Stack. But there is a southern element to the menu as well.

Think Buttermilk Biscuits (above) and Catfish ‘N Eggs. You won’t find Cajun Shrimp ‘N Grits in Connecticut! You’ll find it at Buttermilk Biscuit in Atlanta though.
If you choose pancakes or French Toast, try one of Buttermilk Biscuit’s flavored butters. They have blueberry, peach and strawberry flavored butters.
I had the BB Po Boy Catfish Sandwich. The remoulade sauce was so good. And the fish was fried to perfection.

Brunch restaurants are usually considered very unhealthy. There are many options at Buttermilk Biscuit. The menu has many vegan and vegetarian options. There are also fresh pressed juices. Varieties include carrot, grapefruit and orange juices.

Bole Ethiopian Restaurant
I had been interested in trying Ethiopian food for quite a while. There is a large Ethiopian population around Atlanta, Georgia. So, there were lots of options. Bole Ethiopian was located near my hotel and had solid reviews.
The restaurant itself has a great atmosphere. There is traditional Ethiopian artwork throughout the restaurant. You will also find rooms large enough to host small gatherings.

I ordered the Bole Chicken Awaze Tibs. It included chicken sauteed with Bole awaze sauce. The awaze sauce is a blend of Ethiopia spices and chili paste.

Besides the sauce, onion, jalapeno, tomato, rosemary and mitmita (Ethiopian spice mixture) are also included in this dish. I had it without jalapeños. This dish, like most served at the restaurant, comes with injera (unique Ethiopian bread) and a side salad.
I was most excited to try the injera. I was familiar with it but had never seen it in person. This bread has a spongey texture and comes in rolls that look like mini carpets.

My food was very good. It was spicy but enjoyable. I recommend it for those that can handle spicy foods. The injera bread helps tone down the spice. You break off pieces of the injera and use it to pick up pieces of the chicken. No cutlery required.
Besides my entree, I tried spiced tea. It was Lipton brand black tea, infused with Ethiopian spices. I enjoyed it a lot. My sister had Ethiopian beer. She enjoyed it as well.

Waffle House
Waffle House is a 24-hour sit-down restaurant known for its U.S. style breakfast foods. They also serve lunch and dinner. It started in 1955 and was the idea of two neighbors living in Georgia.

For those who have never seen the inside of the restaurant, it stays true to its 1950s roots. The interiors look like soda shops from the 1950s. The counters are low so you can see into the kitchen. Stools allow you to sit right up to the counter. Don’t miss the juke box.

I picked up their signature waffles to go. The waffles are my favorite thing to order. I also like their hash browns. A popular option is the All-Star Special. It includes a waffle, two slices of bacon, two pieces of toast, two sunny side up eggs and a hash brown. They also have breakfast sandwiches.
If you’re in the mood for lunch or dinner, try one of their Texas Melts (sandwiches that use giant Texas Toast bread) or burgers. For traditional dinner plates, choose a steak or ham meal. They also have pork chop meals. Each of these include hashbrowns.

This restaurant is a staple in the southern U.S. Every time I visit Georgia, I make sure to pay Waffle House a visit. An Atlanta food tour is not complete without a visit to Waffle House.

I hope this mini Atlanta food tour inspired you to try new local restaurants in your area. What do people like to eat when they visit where you live? Let me know in the comments.

Yes Kelcy … Waffle House is an Atlanta staple… Like NY pizza spots…almost one on every corner. But they are a good place to get familiar favorites and fast too…
Enjoyed your piece on Ethiopian restaurants too. There is a good variety of food here in ATL
Actually I went to a Thai restaurant in Johns Creek recently…I love that food…so fresh…and atmosphere very pleasant.
Thanks for your post on ATL food…
Jill, I’m glad you enjoyed the post. And that you had such a nice time enjoying Thai food recently.
