5 High Impact Interior Design Updates
Boring home? You need to incorporate high impact Interior Design. You don’t need a million dollars to have a nice home. We’re not going to take down walls. However, once you make these updates you’ll feel like you did a complete renovation!
Paint
Paint transforms any room. It’s so simple, yet so many people shy away from color. Do you have to choose a bold high impact color? No. Look at the top photo. It’s subtle but it still makes a statement. You don’t have to paint your whole room a bright moody yellow like the photo below. You don’t even have to paint all the walls. Choose one wall to be your high impact Interior Design update.

Plants/flowers
Another great high impact update is plants or flowers. I prefer plants because they last longer. Pick up plants at Trader Joe’s or a similar store. You don’t have to go to a special florist. You don’t need the trendiest plant on social media. Start with something simple like a snake plant. Or a hanging plant. Stick one on your table top. The plants can even be fake. Whichever you choose, they make such a difference.
Books
Another great element is books. You can order your favorites online. Maybe you’ll get them thrifted. They don’t have to be books that you’ve read. Collect a wide variety of sizes and colors. Put them on your side table. Place them on your coffee table. Maybe you’ll decide to put them on a bookshelf.

Hardware
The next high impact Interior Design update is something for the kitchen. But it can also be used for any other furniture that has hardware. It can even be your doorknobs. Lots of furniture comes with standard hardware that we don’t like. Maybe a room in your home could use an update, but you don’t want to do a huge overhaul. Change the hardware. You can paint your cabinets or furniture if you want. But even just changing the hardware alone will be a big upgrade.
Artwork
Have you ever visited a staged or model home? They will put a piece of artwork in each room. You see what a huge difference it makes. They know that it is a high impact Interior Design element. It makes people want to live in that space. It adds personality. You can do the same thing in your own home. Purchase art off of a website. Or you can make your own abstract art with a canvas off of Amazon. The choice is yours. But you will definitely be happy with the results.
You’ll notice that each of the photos shown contain multiple high impact Interior Design elements. Choose a combination of the elements for the biggest effect. However, each element does wonders on its own.

I often marvel on how plants can transform an indoor area! I like the effect of the basic, floor size potted palm. This plant is dramatic in its varying shades of green and adds a splendid tropical touch to any space, if placed at the right location – or, as you suggest, an artificial one is just as impactful. Thank you Kelcy. I enjoy the super ideas you always present.

Thanks Patricia! Yes, plants make such a difference. I’m glad you enjoyed the post.
Nice ideas… I have a ‘feature wall’… deep orange…then I accented it with a red hutch in my compact kitchen space and a bright red tea pot…
I also decided on a Paris theme room divider to change the dimensions of my room somewhat and another black & white flower pattern divider for my ‘home office’ space… Yes, just a few inexpensive changes and voila !! A whole new and interesting space.
Thanks Kelcy…
Jill, I love deep orange! Yes, small changes make such a big difference!
