Turn Your Design Dreams into Reality- Interview with an Interior Designer
This week I’m interviewing the creator of YL Designz, Yanette Lebrun. She runs an interior design firm based in Maryland, USA. She has experience creating interiors for both commercial and residential properties. Continue reading to see what she enjoys most about her field.
Q: What made you want to become an Interior Designer?
Becoming an interior designer came naturally. I was always into art and design as a painter in my past time. I knew that I wanted to study something that would allow me to continue to express that inventive and creative side, while having a more steady career. Interior design was a perfect fit. It’s been over ten years since I made that decision, and I continue to enjoy being a commercial interior designer. I also share my expertise as an adjunct interior design professor, in addition to running my business.
Q: Do you prefer residential or commercial interior design? Why?
I’ve always been drawn to commercial interior design. This is mostly because of the ability to have more creative control and typically these projects have larger budgets which allow optimum levels of creativity.
Q: What is your favorite room of the home to design? Why?
The living area is my favorite part of the home to design and the lobby/reception area in commercial design. It gives guests that initial welcoming feeling as they enter the space. It also sets the mood and creates a special ambiance to the comfort of myself and guests.
Q: What advice would you give someone who wants to start a career as an Interior Designer?
Don’t be afraid to ask questions. Ask questions about the design process and why things are done a certain way. Have a good understanding of what your long term goal is, for instance owning a design firm or working as a director or employee for a large firm, so you can research the path to get there to achieve that goal.
